My blojo and how I lost and found it

My blojo (or blog motivation) went on leave over a month ago.

I got the idea for this blog from my sister, Elizabeth, who is an excellent and dedicated maker of things crochet.

She talked once about losing her crojo (motivation for crochet). I’m not sure how she recovered it, but it came back, too! Her newest rug is one of the prettiest I’ve seen.

Crojo and blojo (made-up words) owe their origin to the slang word, mojo. Mojo can be used to describe the feeling of pleasure one feels from achieving something or doing something well.

The blojo I’m talking about is my passion for communicating through ‘How to be eighty’, which I usually love writing. The poor old blog has seen many ups and downs in the recent past. When I finally got it going again, I thought I’d nailed it.

‘No more missing blogs,’ I told myself in my sternest voice.

Life gets in the way of blojo

But apparently, life had different plans from those I’d made. I’ve been feeling off colour. Out of sorts. Not really sick, but far from myself. I began to wonder if it was the sudden onset of the dreaded ‘frail aged’ syndrome. Pathetic, really!

One evening, my neighbours called an ambulance. They were worried; I was grateful for their care. My daughter and a grandson sat in the emergency room of the local hospital with me from 8.30 pm to 5.30 the next morning.

A very sweet resident doctor examined me and consulted with his boss.

They decided that my raised blood pressure could be managed by my general practitioner. Nothing to worry about! I should go home and see her ‘soon’. Their diagnosis (or lack of it) didn’t make me feel any better.

And sitting through the night on rock-hard, blue plastic seats under flourescent lights did not thrill me. Nor, I expect, does it thrill many people.

Cured!

I went home and spent time looking after myself. Read a lot of good books. Daydreamed. Played with the puppy. Watched television. Crocheted, just a little.

A month later, I feel better. Amazing what taking a break can do for one’s … everything. I’m glad to be back. Life beckons. My blojo returned. No more frailty. No more pathetic bleatings.

I forward to many things, especially an interstate holiday with some special people at the end of September.

I am grateful to everyone who has shown their love and concern.

    1. Eileen Susan I expect it doesn’t matter if they catch on or not. At least its fun to use new words. And Kathryn Kinang has added another in the comments. Hers is quojo for her passion for quilting.

  1. Glad you are feeling better. Must be time of the year! I too sat in ED for 14 hours on those same hard chairs!!! I have lost my quojo (Quilting 😁). Hope I can find it soon, so much material sitting there.

    1. Hi, Kathryn. It’s lovely to hear from you. Your 14 hours must be some sort of record and I hope you are better after that ordeal. I love your new word (quojo!) We are definitely onto something here. Mx

  4. Hello Maureen. I’m so pleased to hear you’re feeling better. And all the Jo’s have returned.
I missed this post on my Reader, and I’m having problems accessing your site. I either get the message ‘Nothing Here’ or Site Private! I’ve no idea how I managed to manipulate the access and view this one!
My email tells me you have a new post about the Keyboard, but I cannot find it.
Keep the spirits up, stay well and don’t lose your Mojo again! 🙂

    1. It’s so good to feel better, SueW. I was seriously concerned that I may have been really ill, but no, it seems to have passed. Thank goodness. And my jos are back! I even swam 1000 metres this morning. I have no idea either why you do not get my posts, but I do know I accidently posted the headline about the keyboard, instead of saving it. I realised when it was too late and WordPress gave no idea how I could take the thing down or let people know what had happened. The Keyboard will be there next week. You can read the one I posted this morning at https://maureenhelen.com/music-and-falling-in-love-again/ x
